For domestic hygiene, chamber pots, spittoons, washbasins, hot and cold water jugs and tins for combs and soap were used. The ceramic factories in Zell met these needs in many variations for more than a century; more than 150 are known.<\/p>\n
For night-time lighting, oil lamps and candlesticks were produced in a wide variety of designs. The candlesticks often had an additional holder for matches, which were called “Swedish stands” in old catalogues. The name goes back to the matchstick monopoly granted to the Swedish industrialist Ivar Kreuger by the Weimar Republic in return for a government loan.<\/p>\n
The spinning wheel water bowl was already produced before 1900. The bowl was attached to the spinning wheel and filled with water. The water was used to moisten the fingers when spinning flax, which became more supple and easier to spin. On the picture postcard with the image of a spinning room, such a spinning wheel water container can be seen several times.<\/p>\n
The factories in Zell offered a variety of writing utensils for written correspondence. Some had a tray for nibs and quill pens as well as covered pots for ink and fine sand to soak up the excess ink on the writing.<\/p>\n
As furnishings, night and wash dishes were also ornately decorated in many decorative variations.
