Formerly used as a kiln for porcelain, the circular kiln will even be used multifunctionally after the renovation.
The round kiln was known as the five-fired kiln. It was No. 5 in the row of 6 kilns in the Upper Factory.
The predecessors of the circular kiln were several smaller kilns for firing earthenware at temperatures up to 1240°C.
After 1839, it was used for the firing of porcelain by Gottfried Ferdinand Lenz and Wilhelm Schnitzler.
With firing temperatures of 850°C to 1450°C, firing capsules and porcelain could be fired across three firing chambers.
The porcelain clay (kaolin) needed for production first came from Limoges in central France, later from Bohemia and England.
It has an outer diameter of 10.3 metres and a height of 16 metres.
